You have never read a tale like this one in the past

and
you may never in the future.

Garaguso, Italy

The Palese and Auletto families emigrated from Garaguso, Italy. Nestled in a valley in the Basilicata Region of Southern Italy. The families made their living on working in the fields like most others.

To this day, Garaguso remains almost unchanged. Time has seemed to have little effect on Garaguso with an approximate population of 12,000 and manages to keep its old world charm.

Thumbnails of Garaguso, Italy.

More thumbnails including some of the locals.

These photographs, represent visions of Garaguso as a tiny, Southern Italian village rich in traditions, antiquity and small hints of the modern world. These images capture vistas of the landscape and the lives of the Southern Italian peasantry. The contrast between the present population, unaffected by globalization and the "rest of the world" reminds one that another world; another way of life is indeed possible.
